Arsenal stole a 2-1 win against Southampton after a stoppage-time penalty from Santi Cazorla saw the Gunners leave with all three points at the Emirates on Saturday.

Southampton took the lead on 18 minutes when Virgil van Djik's free-kick on the edge of the area hit the crossbar and bounced in off the back of Petr Cech but Arsenal found their way back into the game on 29 minutes through Laurent Koscielny's overhead kick.

Arsenal looked much the stronger side in the second half and it looked as if the sides were going to share the points until Olivier Giroud was brought down in the box by Jose Fonte and Cazorla smashed the resulting penalty past Fraser Forster.

"Covered an unconvincing Arsenal today. Asleep first 25 mins. Shane Long missed chances costly for Southampton" - football commentator Ian Darke (@IanDarke) was not impressed by the hosts.

Santi Cazorla: The 31-year-old had a very strong game in midfield clearing up mistakes from the attackers and making a number of good crosses into the box. His strike from the penalty spot was taken with confidence and secured the Gunners their second win of the season.

After making his debut for Arsenal Lucas Perez was substituted just after the hour mark for Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman made a direct impact and the Gunners looked a much stronger side in the box with him on the pitch. His commitment to getting the ball and his confidence when in possession was exactly what was lacking from Lucas.

With the 90 minutes up referee Robert Madley awarded Arsenal a penalty after Giroud was brought down in the box by Saints defender Fonte. After a lengthy stop due to an injury on Koscielny, Cazorla sent Forster the wrong way to get his second goal of the season.
