Antoine Griezmann responds to the latest rumours of a move to Manchester United
Antoine Griezmann appears to have given the biggest indication yet that he is not interested in a summer move to Manchester United after suggesting 'there is no reason' for him to leave Atletico Madrid.
The France striker believed to be United’s leading transfer target, with the Old Trafford giants prepared to pay up to £85m to secure the services of the forward who has taken his goal tally past the 20-mark for the last four successive seasons.
Reports suggested United were cooling their interest in signing Griezmann earlier this month and the latest comments from the striker give a big hint that he is in no rush to make the move to England.
“I am always asked the same question and I am pretty sick of it, but like I always say, I am very happy here,” he told Spain’s TVE Telediario de La1.
“My team-mates are some of the best you can have and I am working with a great coach. So I am doing very well here and there is no reason to go.”
Griezmann is believed to be fiercely loyal to current Atletico coach Diego Simeone, but there are doubts over the future of the Argentine tactician who has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan in recent weeks.
Yet his star striker has suggested he expects his manager to remain in position, with Simeone’s future likely to play a big role in the career decisions of Griezmann.
“He likes it here, he sees in us a squad that has more to give and he does as well,” added Griezmann.
“He wants to go very far in Champions and La Liga and soon we will have a new stadium. I am sure he will continue with us.”
Griezmann has hinted that he has no interest in a move to England, with the weather and the potential intrusion into his private life from the media factors that ensure he is less than excited by the prospect of a move to Manchester.
All that could change if Simeone was to leave Atletico this summer and United triggered the release clause that is believe to have been inserted into Griezmann’s contract.
What seems increasingly apparently is that even if the agents associated with Griezmann’s possible move to Old Trafford are keen to promote a possible move, the player does not seem convinced by the prospect of a switch to the Premier League.
