Ireland international Anthony Stokes has completed his move to Iran and will make his debut for league leaders Persepolis next weekend.

The 31-year-old, who quit Turkish side Adana Demispor in November, has been in Dubai for talks with officials from the Tehran-based club.

In recent days the former Celtic and Sunderland star was linked with a move to Poland but he has now agreed a deal with Persepolis and will be greeted by his new team-mates in Tehran today ahead of their next league game on Saturday.

"I have played in Iran before and I know the Persepolis players well, I have a great passion to join Persepolis and I hope to help the team," Stokes said.

Since Stokes left Hibs in January 2018 he has had spells in Greece (Apollon Smyrni), Iran (Tractor Sazi) and Turkey (Adana Demirspor).

Dubliner Eamon Zayed previously played for Persepolis between 2011 and 2013.
