Airtricity League wrap: Drogheda and Derry win, Hoops held by Shels
Drogheda United came from behind to beat Bray Wanderers 2-1 at Hunky Dory Park to leap to second place in the Airtricity League.
Bray took the lead on 15 minutes when Jason Byrne dispossessed Paul O'Connor before playing a neat one-two with Dean Zambra and blasting to the net from 20 yards.
The Drogs were presented with a glorious chance to equalise when David Cassidy was fouled in the box but Declan O'Brien missed from the spot.
Drogheda restored parity with a brilliant free-kick from Eric Foley and got a deserved winner 11 minutes from time when Ryan Brennan headed home Shane Grimes cross.
Rory Patterson's late goal saw Derry City record their first win in Turners Cross since 2000 with a 1-0 triumph.
Both sides were guilty of missing great chances and it ultimately took a penalty to separate the sides.
In the 89th minute, the referee pointed to the spot after Adam Rundle was adjudged to have handled in the area. Patterson's penalty was well saved by Mark McNulty but his effort rebounded to the striker who slotted home to secure all three points.
Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne played out a goalless stalemate at Tolka Park this afternoon.
Rovers dominated large swaths of the game but failed to create many clear-cut chances.
Shelbourne netminder Niall Burdon had an inspired game as Shels held on for a deserved point
