SLIGO IT have appealed their expulsion from the Independent.ie Sigerson Cup and will go before the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) in Croke Park tonight to try to get reinstated.

Sligo IT and Queens University were both thrown out of the blue riband of colleges football last week for fielding ineligible players.

Sligo, managed by former Donegal star Martin McHugh, submitted their appeal on Sunday and Queens have also reportedly lodged one.

McHugh's men beat the Belfast college (1-9 to 0-8, after extra-time ) when the two met in the first round.

They were due to play UCC in the quarter-finals tomorrow but that game has been postponed indefinitely depending on the outcome of tonight's CAC hearing.
