Sixth-place finish for Allen in Doha

Bertram Allen recorded a respectable sixth-place finish in the final Grand Prix of the 2015 Global Champions Tour series at Doha in Qatar on Saturday afternoon.

Partnering the brilliant mare Molly Malone, the 20-year-old Irishman qualified for the second round with a fast four faults first time out.

Cian O'Connor also left just one fence on the floor with Good Luck, but his slower time left him out of the top-18 who made the cut.

Allen (above) produced a foot-perfect second run in the fast time of 64.3 seconds, and this proved plenty good enough for sixth place and €13,500 to add to his winnings earlier in the week.

Just three competitors went through to the third-round jump-off against the clock, and the 2015 Global Champions Tour title went to Portugal's Luciana Diniz who, last to go with Fit for Fun, pipped Britain's Scott Brash for the series honours. Diniz pocketed €903,808 during the 15-leg Global Champions Tour this season.

Meanwhile at Ravenna in Italy yesterday, Aoife Clarke performed with credit as she finished runner-up in the CCI 3-Star with the eight-year-old Wasting Light.

Clarke finished second when collecting just six time penalties in the cross-country phase.

And a clean sheet in yesterday's showjumping saw her finish just over a point behind winning Italian rider Vittoria Pannizon partnering the 12-year-old Borough Penny.
