Wulf sends Toulon back to Top 14 summit
Munster's Heineken Cup opponents Toulon warmed up for their semi-final showdown in Marseille with a crushing 46-32 defeat of Perpignan.
The Catalan side, who Munster beat twice in the pool stages of the Heineken Cup, moved the game to Barcelona but it was Toulon who ran riot – scoring four tries. Freddie Michalak kicked 26 points while Rudi Wulf helped himself to two tries. Virgile Bruni and a brilliant Steffon Armitage try completed the rout for Toulon, who return to the Top 14 summit.
Bernard Laporte's side could afford to start Mathieu Bastareaud, Carl Hayman and Xavier Chiocci on the bench while they remain hopeful that Jonny Wilkinson will be fit enough to return from a hamstring injury on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Johnny Sexton's Racing Metro ensured their participation in European Cup rugby next season as they easily saw off Clermont Auvergne. Sexton, who shared kicking duties with scrum-half Maxime Machenaud, scored three points as Racing won out 22-6 to move into fourth spot and seal their place in the end-of-season play-off.
