Robbie Henshaw has been ruled out of Ireland's World Cup opener against Canada on Saturday.

While Henshaw was expected to start for Joe Schmidt's men, Independent.ie understands he picked up a slight hamstring twinge in training and will sit this one out as a precautionary measure.

Luke Fitzgerald is favourite to partner Jared Payne in the centre for Saturday's Cardiff clash when Joe Schmidt announces his 15 at 2pm today.
