There were jubilant scenes in San Fransisco in the early hours of this morning as Ireland secured the Challenge Trophy title at Rugby World Cup Sevens with a 24-14 victory over Australia.

Captain Billy Dardis was among Ireland's try scorers as they beat Australia 24-14 in the Bowl final to cap a fine couple of months that saw them win bronze in the London round of the series as the invitational team. Ireland had early powered past Celtic rivals Wales 27-12 to reach the final, while Australia overcame Canada 19-7.

Dardis was also the provider for a stunning Jimmy O'Brien try. Watch below:

The victory capped a successful tournament for the men’s and women’s teams in the US, as they picked up some impressive scalps along the way – the men beating Kenya, Wales and Australia and the women stunning England in their opening game.

The women’s team recorded their best Rugby World Cup Sevens finish of sixth overall after losing out to Spain in a hard-fought play-off.
