Former Leinster outside half Jimmy Gopperth has been cited for a dangerous challenge on Mat Tait in Wasps 24-16 defeat to the Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

Gopperth was sin-binned for leading with the arm on Mat Tait at a crucial time of the game after the TMO said he took his eyes off the ball before making contact with Tait.

The Kiwi will appear before an RFU disciplinary panel and could face a spell on the sidelines.

Television replays appeared to show the New Zealander punch Tait in the side of the head.

The hearing will take place in Coventry on Tuesday night, and will be chaired by William Harbage QC.
