Ulster poised to sign star Australian playmaker as out-half cover ahead of PRO 14 season
Ulster are reportedly close to signing Brumbies out-half Christian Lealiifano on a short-term contract.
With Paddy Jackson unavailable, Ulster are in the market for a replacement ten, and according to Fox Sports Australia, Lealiifano will play for the province during the Super Rugby off-season, which runs up until early 2018.
The playmaker, who has won 19 caps for the Wallabies, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016, and made his return to action as a replacement during the Brumbies' Super Rugby quarter-final defeat last month to the Hurricanes.
Lealiifano made his test debut against the Lions in 2013, but left the field with a concussion in the early stages. The Wallaby's arrival would be a big boost for Ulster, who have suffered setbacks at half-back recently with Jackson's unavailability and Ruan Pienaar's departure.
