Turkish Airlines zones in on Pro12

Turkish Airlines have emerged as the leading candidates to succeed RaboDirect as the title sponsors of the Pro12 from next season.

Organisers of the tournament, Celtic Rugby Ltd, hosted a number of potential suitors at Saturday's clash between Leinster and Munster at the Aviva Stadium and it is believed the airline, who currently sponsor Manchester United and have relationships with global stars Lionel Messi and Kobe Bryant, appear the most likely to take over.

Dutch bank Rabo opted not to renew their current deal from the end of the season after taking over from Magners in 2011.

The move by Sky Sports to take over the broadcasting rights for the Irish provinces' primary competition seems to have widened the net for potential sponsors and, with an announcement likely to be made in the coming weeks, it appears the airline is set to win the race

McFarland takes reins for emerging England

Connacht forwards coach Dan McFarland will lead the Emerging Ireland squad to Romania this summer.

The former prop will lead a panel of young prospects to a three-match IRB Nations Cup which will be similar to the Tbilisi Cup that took place last year and featured the likes of Dave Kearney and Jordi Murphy, who both contributed to Ireland's Six Nations win.

McFarland will be assisted by Ulster back's coach Neil Doak for the competition in which the Emerging side will face Uruguay, Russia and hosts Romania, who are in Ireland's pool for the 2015 World Cup.

Cockerill calls on spirit of Thomond

Richard Cockerill insists Clermont's intimidating home record offers Leicester the chance to make history when the European heavyweights clash in Saturday's Heineken Cup quarter-final.

And Cockerill has invoked the spirit of 2007 when Leicester became the first Heineken Cup team to storm Munster's Thomond Park stronghold to inspire their passage into the semi-finals.
