Name: Eamon Kelly.
School: Colaiste Iognaid.
Date of birth: 18/05/1998.
Q: Who is the coach that has had the biggest influence on your career and why?
Will Mallard. He has given a huge amount of time and effort into developing me as a rugby player. He has shown a lot of faith in me by selecting me as captain and every game I play I want to prove to him that he chose the right man. He was my coach for last season also and it was as a result of him that I began to take rugby very seriously.
Q: Any famous past pupils?
Former Connacht head coach and Irish international Eric Elwood attended Colaiste Iognaid, along with former Connacht player Eoin Griffin and current player Eoin McKeon.
Q: Who is the rugby player you most admire and why?
Jonathan Sexton, as his path to professionalism wasn't always an easy one. He wasn't always first-choice out-half for Leinster or for Ireland in the past, but he continued to work hard and he had his lucky break and is now the undisputed best 10 in the Northern Hemisphere.
Q: What was your most memorable match and why?
My first senior rugby game against Sligo Grammar School - the jump up in class, passion and desire from Junior rugby is astounding. To couple that game with the fact that I was captaining the side, made that day and that game become a very special memory.
Q: What does it mean to captain your side this year?
It was a fantastic honour to captain my school this year as there is such a great hype around rugby in the school, and the feeling of being a central part in that is incredible. I am immensely proud to have the opportunity to represent my school and all of its teachers and pupils and everything it stands for. I am well aware of the list of great captains that I follow in the footsteps of, and I would sincerely hope that one day, my name could be added to that list.
