Tom McGurk to retire from rugby panel: ‘It’s been a fantastic journey over 18 years’
Veteran RTE broadcaster Tom McGurk has announced that he will retire from the much-loved rugby panel at the end of the Six Nations.
Both McGurk and commentator George Hook will leave the panel when the tournament finishes.
“18 years is a long enough time and it’s been a fantastic journey,” the broadcaster told RTE’s Sean O’Rourke today.
McGurk said he was proud Ireland’s rugby audience had grown since his panel first began.

“That [the panel] managed to spread that audience out from the small coterie of rugby [is great]”.
“When you get into a taxi and the driver says to you ‘How’ya Tom’, that’s when you know it works.”
Tonight’s Six Nations clash between England and Wales will air on RTE2 at 7.30pm.
