Ireland Club team head coach Tom Tierney has named a strong squad to take on their Scottish counterparts in Cork (Temple Hill, 7.30) this evening.
Gerry Hurley will captain the side and is partnered at half-back by Clontarf's prolific out-half David Joyce. Joyce's team-mate, and Division 1A's top try scorer, Michael McGrath, will make up a formidable back three with Cian Aherne and Danny Riordan. McGrath has scored 10 tries this season and will be hoping to add to that here.
Up front, Young Munster's Ger Slattery, who has represented Munster this season in the Pro12 ,starts at hooker. Two of the starting back-row – Colm McMahon and William Ryan – started against Scotland last March.
Ireland lost 30-18 that night and will be hoping to reverse the result and regain the Dalriada Cup. A very experienced coaching ticket also includes former Ireland player and current Cork Con forwards coach, Mick O'Driscoll.
Although the team won't have had a lot time to gel, if their talented back line clicks, they should have enough to see off what will be a typically strong Scottish side.
