The Left Wing: Leinster's defensive worries and why in-form Donnacha Ryan should leave Ireland at 35, not 33

Will Slattery

In this week's episode of The Left Wing, Luke Fitzgerald looks ahead to this weekend's Champions Cup quarter-finals involving the Irish provinces.

Leinster host Wasps at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, with Munster welcoming Toulouse to Thomond Park later that evening - with Fitzgerald predicting two Irish wins.

However, in this week's episode he also analyses some areas of concern in Leinster's defence that Wasps will certainly exploit if they aren't addressed by Saturday.

Fitzgerald also points out how Munster might break down the Toulouse defence by using CJ Stander as a distributor close to the gain line.

The former Ireland and Leinster star also explains why the IRFU may regret allowing Munster second row Donnacha Ryan to leave for Racing 92 before the next World Cup, pointing to examples of other locks who prospered as they grew older.
