Sonny Bill Williams has been awarded another World Cup winners medal after he gave his own to a fan following New Zealand’s triumph over Australia.

Williams - who had received his medal along with the rest of the All Black squad - handed it to 14-year-old Charles Lines after yesterday's final.

The young boy had been knocked to the ground by a member of the security staff as he tried the reach the centre on to the Twickenham turf.

However, at this evening’s World Rugby Awards, Williams received a standing ovation as he was presented with a new medal.

"It was just a gesture that most fellas would do, especially from back home," he said at the awards ceremony.

"The young fella got hurt, got tackled. I just looked at it as, if that was my little brother or nephew, I would not have wanted that to happen to him.

"I guess I just tried to put a smile on his face."
