Stander seals victory for lacklustre Munster 'A'
Munster 'A' 23 Plymouth Albion 9
Tries in either half from Ronan O'Mahony and CJ Stander along with 13 points from the boot of Johnny Holland ensured Munster 'A' recovered from last week's defeat to Plymouth after a tepid and error-strewn encounter at the RSC in Waterford.
Out-halves Holland and Dan Mugford swapped two penalties apiece in the first quarter. Munster were camped inside the Plymouth '22' and earned four penalties but sloppy turnovers cost them points.
The Reds eventually capitalised on their dominance after 23 minutes. Stander and captain Niall Scannell made the hard yards and when the ball was swept wide Niall Kenneally put full-back O'Mahony through to touch down. Holland added the extras to leave them 13-6 to the good.
Five minutes after the restart, Holland nailed a penalty from 40 metres. Plymouth replied three minutes later through sub fly-half Declan Cusack (16-9). A stop-start second half saw untidy handling on both sides. Plymouth prop Lloyd Fairbrother was then sin-binned on 76 minutes. A last-minute try from Stander, after good work from the pack, sealed the win.
