Special guests drop in to help PBS Newbridge toast stellar season
The Patrician Brothers Secondary school, Newbridge held its annual awards day in the presence of more than 800 schoolboys and all of the teaching staff last Wednesday.
Principal Pat O'Leary welcomed Shane Byrne and Adam Byrne to the school, and later presented both of them with gold medals to commemorate their visit.
Shane has won numerous honours in the game including caps for Leinster, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions, while Adam is a former pupil of PBS who has been capped at U-18 level for Leinster and Ireland and is the youngest player to have played for Leinster, receiving his first start when Joe Schmidt was coach.

The team was coached by Eoin Walsh and Evan Kavanagh, of Newbridge RFC. Technical advice and support was provided by David Mahon. Two teachers, Andrew Burke and Kieran Behan, committed a great deal of their time to training and match days.
Peter Howard, who played at centre for the team and is a member of Cill Dara RFC, was capped by Leinster and Ireland at U-18 Youths level.
The senior rugby award winner was Matt Dempsey, who also captained the winning senior team. The junior award winner was Barry Leigh.
