Former Ireland international Stephen Ferris has become the latest ex-player to disagree with Joe Schmidt's decision to omit France-bound full-back Simon Zebo from his international squads this season.

And he has also questioned the logic of refusing to call up European Player of the Year nominee Tadhg Beirne, the Scarlets lock who is set to join Munster next season.

"I don't agree with it," said Ferris. "Simon Zebo is a Munster player currently so why shouldn't he be allowed to play for Ireland?

"Tadhg Beirne is going to be at Munster next year so why is he not in the squad because he has probably been the best second-row in Europe these last couple of weeks?

"I don't think Simon will be getting a call even if there are injuries. If Simon wasn't playing for Munster I could understand it but he's playing for Munster.

"He's a massive part of the IRFU, they pay a lot of wages and give a lot more money to Munster, and Simon has been a faithful Munster man and Irishman over the last number of years."
