Former Irish international Neil Francis missed a Five Nations encounter after drinking something which has no business in the human digestive system.

The Irish Independent columnist was asked what was the most annoying reason why you missed a Five or Six Nations game and response was amazing but not nearly as impressive as his dead pan delivery of the story.

"I drank Simon Geoghegan's contact lenses and solution in the middle of the night and I was as sick as a dog the next day... and I was out," he said.

"Nobody knows that."

They do now.

Tony Ward had a far less interesting story, missing out because he was dropped while Irish Independent rugby correspondent Ruaidhri missed a game because he had to go meet the outlaws (I mean in-laws).

Thankfully, in all three cases everything worked out in the end.
