After seeing off all who came before them last year, it has become increasingly clear that Ireland have not evolved their game-plan since the highs of 2018.

Given the lack of meaningful game-time from here until Ireland kick off their World Cup against Scotland, Joe Schmidt and his coaching staff face a massive task in turning this around in time.

For a head coach who is unrivalled in the strike moves that he comes up with, Schmidt is more than capable of adding more strings to his side's bow.

He certainly has the players at his disposal to do so, but they must be allowed to express themselves within the rigid system that had served them so well.

Having used 36 players over the five games, there are only a handful who have improved their World Cup claims.

For the rest, the next six months will feel like an eternity.
