The green finger of a great 20-16 victory
Ireland's dream of back-to-back Six Nations Championships and a Triple Crown remains alive after a try of stunning beauty by Tommy Bowe broke English hearts in the cauldron of Twickenham yesterday.
Sunday Independent columnist George Hook called it right: "It was classic Kidney. Ride the punches and deliver a knock-out blow in the 15th round." Tommy Bowe's try was spectacular, the winger jinking past the English backline with a mazy run that, with the conversion, gave Ireland a 20 to 16 lead which they held onto.
With the game all tied up at 13-13 and the loss of Brian O'Driscoll, who was carried off on a stretcher, it looked like a potential disaster until Tommy Bowe's intervention.
