Rory Best reveals he is close to agreeing new contract with IRFU
Ireland captain Rory Best has revealed that he is close to signing a contract extension that would bring him up to the end of World Cup next year.
Best's current deal runs out at the end of the season and he admitted that the process had been much slower than he had hoped.
The IRFU and Ulster are keen to get it over the line however, as the 35-year old targets leading Ireland in Japan.
"I think it is at a fairly advanced stage and we'll hopefully have an announcement about that fairly soon," Best said at the captain's run this morning, where all of the Irish players came through unscathed ahead of tomorrow's Six Nations clash against Scotland.
"I feel I'm playing pretty well and my stance on it hasn't changed in the last while.
"Due to a few unforeseen circumstances it isn't been as quickly through as we would like but hopefully we would have news on that – good, bad or indifferent – in the future, the very near future."
Iain Henderson is also out of contract at the end of the season and Irish supporters will be hoping for a similarly positive update from the totemic lock.
