Gatland's loose lips sully game

Warren Gatland never ceases to amaze. Put his comments alongside Brendan Venter's and it's hard to spot the difference.

Put either in front of a microphone and it's open season. Great copy but heaven help their players. Therein lies the issue.

When Gatland, Venter and their ilk sound off it is those on the field left to face the music. Anybody who equates loose lips with smart psychology hasn't a clue.

Gatland's latest outburst (aimed at England hooker Dylan Hartley) defies logic. It is neither smart nor fair and does nothing for the ethos so many have for so long sought to retain. There's an ongoing battle against the darker pro forces without adding self-absorbed nonsense.

Despite being a lifetime fan of Welsh rugby (my favourite 'other team') I know who I'll be backing in the Millennium Stadium on Friday -- and it won't be the side in red.
