England get Irish fans’ vote
Ireland supporters are well aware of the dangers facing Joe Schmidt’s team in Sunday’s Six Nations clash, judging by the results of a survey released yesterday by Ulster Bank
Over 50pc of Irish rugby fans feel that – excluding Ireland – England will be the strongest Six Nations team at the World Cup later this year.
The survey, which generated over 1,280 responses from around the country, also revealed that the English player that Ireland fans would most like to add to Schmidt’s World Cup squad is full-back Mike Brown. And after two Six Nations victories, it appears Ireland supporters are not missing Brian O’Driscoll that much.
Almost two thirds of those surveyed believe that his retirement has had no impact on Ireland’s performances so far.
The results also showed that the Irish public have full faith in Robbie Henshaw taking over O’Driscoll’s famous No 13 jersey.
Over half thought Henshaw was the man for the job while almost 20pc believe Luke Fitzgerald would have a chance at claiming the spot. Another big winner was Simon Zebo, who got the nod as Irish rugby’s best dancer.
