Ireland added a glorious chapter to its rugby history in Murrayfield yesterday and there was as much excitement among the players as there was in the stands.

A nail-biting finish in Twickenham saw Ireland claim the title following a 40-10 victory over Scotland and the players returned for the presentation with many Irish supporters still in the stadium to salute their heroes.

"We never imagined that the lower tier of the stadium was rammed with Irish people," captain Paul O'Connell said the pitch celebrations.

On the winners stage Tommy Bowe captured the mood among the players with a short video of the jubilant squad.

"What a day," he tweeted along with an Instagram video of the celebrations.
