Paul O’Connell has admitted that yesterday’s win in the Aviva Stadium was probably his last home Six Nations clash against England.

The Ireland captain insists he will not make a decision on his future until after the World Cup and after yesterday’s brilliant 19-9 win over England, he had the media in stitches of laughter as the subject was brought up again.

“It could have been (his last Six Nations game against England) but I just don’t know yet. I’ll probably make a decision soon enough. As I said, I really want to play until the World Cup and be in the best shape I can there and then I will see after that.”

But O’Connell was pushed a little further when he was asked was it his last home Six Nations clash against England.

Cue a chorus of laughter as the big second row shifted in his seat and raised a wry smile as he accepted that this question just won’t go away.

“Ye it probably is. There is no point trying to cod myself too much. I’d say that was definitely my last home Six Nations game against England. I am not trying to make a big deal by not saying anything, I just genuinely haven’t decided what to do yet.

“I’m really enjoying playing at the moment. The set up we have in Ireland, I am really conscious of the fact there are very good second rows as well coming through and as I said the World Cup is a big focus for me to try and go there in the best shape I can and around then it will be decision time for me.”
