Ireland's winning captain Niamh Briggs admitted to sleeping with the trophy following the Six nations success in Scotland yesterday.

The women's team put on an incredible display in their 73-3 defeat of the Scottish side in the Broadwood Stadium to overtake France at the top of the table and follow in the footsteps of the men the day before.

Captain Briggs who scored their first try of the day on her 50th international cap, admitted to Ian Dempsey this morning on Today FM that she has not let the trophy out of her sight. .

"I slept with the cup," she admitted.

The Waterford native says that yesterday will live long in the memory for all those involved and the celebrations were well deserved,

"We got back in to Dublin a little late," she said. "We went out for a little while, but it was nothing too major, but I'm sure they will be celebrating for a while.

"Last night was just about us and us staying together and having a really good night. I'm sure when the girls went into Coppers they got a little bit separated.

"For us it was important that we stayed together as a team."

For Briggs, the reality of the occasion is still sinking in but conceded that she did all she could to take in the gravity of the achievement as it happened.

"It was one of those days, it was incredible. When things are going well you don't ever want it to end."
