It goes without saying that former Wales' star Gavin Henson is quite a character but these three anecdotes are hilarious.

Speaking at the Off The Balll Roadshow on Newstalk, Henson's former Lions team mate Brian O'Driscoll and fellow Bristol player Dwayne Peel lifted the lid on three priceless stories about the two-time Grand Slam winner.

The first came courtesy of Peel and centred around Henson's appearance against Ireland in the 2006 Six Nations in Cardiff in the week after Mike Ruddock sensationally left his post as Welsh boss 11-months after delivering the team's first Grand Slam in 27 years.

"We played Scotland on the Saturday and trained on Tuesday morning, turned up for the session on the Tuesday afternoon and he wasn't there. We had a game of touch rugby and went home," Peel said.

"We played Ireland the following weekend at home, which wasn't great we got another pumping there.

"I remember Gavin Henson coming on and Gav... he's mad. Remember his hair!

"Stephen Jones gets a dead leg in the first minute... disaster, Ruddock's gone, talisman is off the pitch and Henson runs on.. fully-tanned.

"I said 'what's the call?' and he goes 'I dunno', he didn't know the calls. He'd been training but he didn't know one call... it was a helluva day."

O'Driscoll revealed Henson's pre-game grooming routine while they were on tour with the Lions.

"I roomed with Gavin Henson on a Lions tour and the morning of a midweek game in the evening and I remember going 'will I go for a p**s or not?, I think I need to go', I decided not to and I held on for another while. I'll try and snooze here," BOD said.

"Big Gav goes into the bathroom and three hour later comes out, the most pristine you have ever seen in your life, the full St Tropez, legs shaved, immaculate hair and he said 'if you look good, you play good!'. I think he played alright that night."

Henson is 34-years-old now but he still seems pretty set in his ways. This story from Peel will prove that.

"Literally, yesterday we're in training and he's the same, he's fully tanned up, this is the God's honest truth, and one of the boys says 'you're skins looking good Gav' and he said 'Yeah, I've started washing and showering with Evian'. He's buying bottled water and bathing. That's how crazy he is."
