JOHNNY SEXTON came off the bench for Racing Metro and helped them on their way to a much-needed win over Bayonne in the Top 14.

Sexton kicked two penalties in an 18-8 victory and came through his 25-minute cameo unscathed – allaying any fears Joe Schmidt may have had ahead of this weekend's trip to Twickenham.

Meanwhile, the Bernard Jackman and Mike Prendergast-coached Grenoble recorded their latest impressive result this season after a 16-13 win over reigning European champions, Clermont Auvergne. Grenoble's 11th win of the season keeps alive their hopes of claiming a play-off spot.

* Leicester boss Richard Cockerill admitted his side "played poorly" as they scraped a 11-8 win at home to Premiership strugglers Gloucester. The champions looked on course for defeat before a 69th-minute try from full-back Mathew Tait and a second Toby Flood penalty two minutes from time got them out of jail.
