St Michael's captured their third Leinster Schools Senior Cup at the expense of first-time finalists Gonzaga at the RDS this afternoon.

Gonzaga had to stay close early on to plant the seeds of doubt into a gusting wind.

They couldn't do it as St Michael's got into rhythm for prop Jack Boyle to ground the ball, centre Chris Cosgrave converting, in the seventh minute.

'Zaga began to get into it as long as they could keep the runners in front of them, second row Jack Coolican and prop Ronan Shaw taking them forward.

It was that man Boyle on the rampage again to get St Michael's in behind before showing up at close quarters for his second try, Cosgrave's extras doubling the lead in the 25th minute.

When Gonzaga finally worked their way forward to draw a penalty, they could not take advantage.

Then, a lovely lineout delivery from lock Liam Tyrell opened the door for scrum-half Jack Connolly to make 20 metres before Niall Carroll halted the attack with a rip in the tackle.

The pick-and-go pressure was patient and lock Jack Coolican was there to ground out a try in injury-time for 14-5 at the break.

The next score would be crucial and Boyle almost completed the hat-trick before hooker Lee Barron drove over for Cosgrave to add two.

That wasn't the end of it, Gonzaga wing Brian Barron held up over the line by Rob Gilsenan.

It was sealed by scrum-half Gilsenan's spectacular try which was started from well inside St Michael's 22.
