Back in 1970 a Rockwell team that included future Ireland international Paul McNaughton broke Glenstal hearts.

In what was the Murroe school's only appearance in the Senior final until today, it took a late, equalising Rockwell try to take the game to a replay. Having been within touching distance, Glenstal's bite at history was lost.

To turn history on its head in today's Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup final at Thomond Park, they will have to do it the hard way against a PBC team that despite a stutter in the semi-final - against the strongest squad ever to come out of Bandon Grammar - has looked every bit the favourite.

It is a difficult mantle to carry at any age but particularly for schoolboys, and by Pres standards seven years is an eternity. That is how long it is since they last won the crown - beating Rockwell 22-10 in the 2010 final.

There is too another incentive. The roll of honour stands CBC on 29 with PBC 28 and Rockwell 26. A win today and the great Cork schools would again share the lead.

There is too a strong Leinster link, with Paul Barr assistant coach to Brian McMahon at Pres and Sean Skehan head coach (assisted by Tom Hayes, brother of the Bull) at Glenstal both former St Michael's students and coaches.

Both schools are littered with outstanding talent. From captain Jack O' Sullivan through Billy Scannell (another of the Scannell dynasty), David Hyland, Peter Sylvester, Gary Bradley (son of Michael), Sean French, Jonathan Wren et al, this is a class PBC line-up.

But Glenstal too have that representative edge through George Downing, Mark Fleming, Luke Fitzgerald and Ben Maloney. Watch too for transition year flyer and Aston Villa triallist Ronan Quinn (nephew of Niall).

In a Munster final anything goes.
