Hickey sparks Crescent comeback
Crescent Comp 33 Castletroy 12 Munster Schools Senior Cup
A stunning second-half performance during which they scored five tries, two of them in the space of two minutes, earned Crescent Comprehensive a place in the Clayton Hotels Munster Senior Cup final against CBC.
Castletroy began in style and their forwards were on top and they deserved their 12-0 half-time lead. Matthhew Hanley went close to opening the scoring for Crescent but his 12th-minute penalty was just wide.
Castletroy then took over and their scrum-half Stephen Atkinson got in for a 19th-minute try which Jamie Heuston converted.
Matters got worse for Crescent when, from a well-worked lineout drive, prop Conor Myers got the touchdown to build what seemed a winning lead.
Whatever was said to the Crescent players during the break worked wonders as they were a transformed side. Peter Hickey touched down after 46 minutes to spark the comeback and two minutes later a spectacular break by Daniel Hurley saw him score a superb try and he converted both to put his side a flattering 14-12 in front.
Castletroy were awarded a penalty but opted to kick for touch when taking the points could have put them back in front. Three more Crescent tries then followed from winger Conor Phillips, skipper Bailey Faloon and finally Billy O'Hora on the stroke of full-time with Hurley converting the last two for a personal tally of 13 points.
