Hedderman double keeps CBC in command
CBC 32 Ardscoil Ris 14 Munster Schools Junior Cup
Cork’s CBC did the hard work in the first half as they advanced past Ardscoil Rís in their Munster Schools Junior Cup quarter-final at Irish Independent Park yesterday.
Three first-half tries helped CBC to hold an 18-0 half-time lead, and though Ardscoil responded with a better second-half performance, they never looked like fully bridging the gap.
CBC hit the ground running, going close to an early try before Eoin Monohan sent over a penalty.
The first try came in the 14th minute as centre JD O’Hea did well to touch down and soon after that flanker Finn Burke got in after a good run to make it 13-0.
Shortly before half-time, full-back Robert Hedderman benefited from a clever switching of the play and even at half-time the outcome looked secured.
Ardscoil started the second half well, however, and winger Maurice Noonan’s mazy run initiated the break which led to John Taylor crossing, with Darragh O’Gorman converting.
CBC responded as replacement Eoin Moloney scored an intercept try.
While O’Gorman got a late Ardscoil try, Hedderman had the final say as he got his second.
