Leinster League winners Gonzaga mean to make a bold bid to ruffle more feathers in the Senior Cup.

They comprehensively outplayed Terenure with a three tries to one quarter-final win that was every bit as convincing as the try-count would suggest.

The platform came from their ruck work with lock Jack Coolican, captain Jack Barry and hooker Hugo Fitzgerald feasting on turnover ball.

They also paid special attention to ruining 'Nure’s lineout and making the set-piece a no-go area.

Their half-backs Jack Connolly and Harry Colbert peppered the Terenure back-three with a variety of kicks to keep the pressure on.

Once they opened up with a well-conceived try for lock Liam Tyrell in the sixth minute, they got hold of a lead they never gave up.

Terenure knew they were in a fight and they got access into the game at the ruck where second row Jack Coolican conceded a penalty for centre Henry Roberts to make it 5-3 in the ninth minute.

It was as close as they would get as ‘Zaga centre Frank O’Grady and full-back Conor Hennessy linked ahead of putting wing Fergus O’hOisin over for Harry Colbert to convert in the 24th minute.

The binning of Coolican in the 32nd minute and Roberts’ penalty in the 40th minute reduced the difference to 12-6, a one-score game.

Really, this came against the grain of play and a lesser side than Gonzaga could have let it get to them.

Terenure just could not apply consistent pressure and Gonzaga showed them how, prop Henry Godson powering to the posts for Colbert to convert in the 59th minute.

There was encouragement for 'Nure from Connolly’s card in the 62nd minute and from Patsakorn Kidd’s fine try in the 67th minute.

It was as close as they could get on an afternoon that belonged to Gonzaga.
