Last season's beaten finalists in the Munster Schools Senior Cup, Glenstal, are into the last eight of the competition but were given a mighty scare by Rockwell College in UL.

Rockwell were the better side for most of the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead at the break.

Jake Flannery's early penalty was no more than the Tipperary side deserved but Glenstal hit back through the boot of Ben Healy before the break.

Glenstal were a different outfit in the second half. A powerful run from George Downing put Rockwell on the back foot and when the ball was sent out to the backs, Ronan Quinn was on hand to deliver a superb finish for the first try of the game.

Healy did the business from the kicking tee to put Glenstal 10-3 ahead.

Rockwell held off the tide that followed and a stroke of luck got them back into the game.

Healy's cross-field kick bounced away from Quinn and into the hands of Rockwell sub Ryan O'Sullivan. He ghosted past several defenders to run in for a sensational try.

However, Flannery was off target with the conversion and Glenstal held on for a 10-8 victory against a Rockwell side that came close to pulling off a huge shock.
