Campbell College clinched the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup for the first time in seven years with a three tries-to-one victory over Armagh Royal at Kingspan.

There was little between the teams in the first period with the Belfast side taking a 5-0 interval advantage in the 35th minute. This came after repeated drives close to the Armagh line led to scrum-half Dara Gaskin finding a gap to dive over.

After the restart Zac Thompson reduced the arrears with a penalty but a charged-down kick led to Campbell’s second try when Conor Rankin chased the loose ball to score under the posts and add the points.

Armagh, who eliminated an RBAI side that was hoping for a fourth successive victory in the Cup in the semi-final, had another Thompson penalty but Campbell made it 19-6 in the 64th minute with a converted Will Davis try.

With a couple of minutes remaining, Alex Johnston crossed for Armagh for Thompson to goal.
