Carew adds gloss to end Crescent's final hoodoo
Crescent College 17 CBC 7 Munster Schools Junior Cup Final Replay
Crescent Comprehensive gained some compensation for defeats in the Senior Cup and also the All-Ireland girls hockey final when the Limerick school denied CBC a senior-junior double in the Clayton Hotels Junior Cup final replay at Thomond Park.
Following their 16-16 tie in the original game the Limerick side dominated what was their third meeting of the season in the competition against the Cork school.
The game was only four minutes old when Crescent went in front when back-row Jack Madden touched down.
But it was CBC who led at half-time, 7-5, after their back-row Conor O'Sullivan got over following a scrum and Billy Cain converted.
Seconds earlier the youngsters from Leeside almost got in but winger Karl Waterman was hauled down just short.
Crescent dominated the second half and a splendid passing move involving backs and forwards saw them take the lead for the second time.
Prop Ronan Gallery took the final pass to touch down; out-half and captain Jack Hurley converted.
While they remained on top Crescent could never relax and in stoppage time they finally ensured their seventh win in the competition when Ben Carew grabbed their third try right in the corner.
It was a first win for Crescent since 2011; they had lost the three previous finals.
