Bandon prevail in battle
Bandon GS (Cork) 7 St Munchin's (Limerick) 5
Staunch defending in the closing stages earned Bandon GS victory over St Munchin's College in the opening round of the Munster Schools Senior Cup at Bandon RFC yesterday.
The hosts led by two points for much of the second half but the wind-assisted Munchin's asked plenty of questions of the Cork school.
Deep into injury time, Munchin's replacement Kristan Lagod found space on the right and headed for the corner, but a wonderful challenge by Bandon's Bruce Matthews denied him.
Bandon had the strong wind behind them in the first half. The first score came as Bandon scrum-half Jack Crowley sent a penalty to touch on the '22' and from the lineout the ball was worked to centre Victor Lovell, who drove forward with pace and power to touch down, Crowley adding the conversion.
The Limerick school got on the scoreboard early in the second period as prop Evan Sheehan forced his way over but unfortunately for them Jazz Pendejit couldn't tack on the extra two points.
Bandon refused to allow any further scores and held out for the win, their third year in succession to triumph against Munchin's.
