Rowsome finishes off Munchin's

Castletroy College 21 St Munchin's 6 Munster Junior Cup

Castletroy College powered past their Limerick neighbours to reach the semi-finals.

Castletroy took the lead after five minutes when Conor Fleming struck a penalty.

Munchin's hit back five minutes later when Jason Kiely slotted a kick from in front of the posts.

The scores weren't level for long – after a quarter of an hour Castletroy got in for a try. Niall O'Shea took a quick tap penalty which caught the Munchin's defence off guard. After several phases of play, hooker Mark O'Mara scored under the posts. Fleming duly added the extras.

The game had a lengthy stoppage midway through the first half after an injury to O'Mara, who was taken away in an ambulance.

Both teams struggled to gain momentum for the remainder of the half.

However, Kiely added his second penalty to leave just four points between the sides at the break.

Castletroy extended their lead shortly after the restart when Fleming kicked a fine penalty.

The crucial moment in the game came after 50 minutes when David Rowsome touched down after a fantastic line-break by winger Sean McBrearty, Fleming failing this time with the conversion.

Munchin's battled hard but couldn't find a way through a stern Castletroy defence. Fleming then added his third penalty as his side set up a semi-final meeting with Ardscoil Ris.
