Rocky's dream ticket defies logic

I know it is exactly what it claims to be -- a 'European Dream (unreal) Team' -- but the decision to select Rocky Elsom on the basis of one, albeit outstanding, year of Heineken Cup rugby simply defies logic.

The selection of Fabien Pelous ahead of Paul O'Connell can be justified on the basis of longevity but Elsom selected ahead of twice winner Lawrence Dallaglio (ironically one of the judging panel) is nonsensical and undermines the process.

It is a fun concept I know, but equally it is an acknowledgement of those who have been most influential in shaping this exceptional European competition and making it into the extraordinary tribal tournament it now is.

To that end the selection of Ronan O'Gara and Guy Noves as the most influential player and coach respectively of the first 15 years gives it the gravitas it deserves.
