I was delighted to witness Wicklow Rugby Club's maiden Provincial Towns Cup success in front of a bumper crowd at Ashbourne's magnificent Milltown House on Sunday.

Club president Larry Byrne expressed it best when he said: "As a player it was my dream to win a Towns Cup medal with my club."

The final against Enniscorthy was a high-quality affair in which Niall Earls reigned supreme.

Half-back partner Denis Higgins, full-back Stephen Duffy, hooker Eanna Killeen and flanker Andy Doyle also stood out for Wicklow, while skipper Killian Lett, out-half Ivan Poole and lock Thomas Stamp were particularly good for Division 1A Champions Enniscorthy.

But this was Wicklow's day, and on a personal level I am particularly delighted for skipper Wes Wojnar and director of rugby Jason Watson.
