A 19-year-old academy player at Stade Francais is recovering in intensive care after suffering a heart attack during a game at the weekend.

Nicolas Chauvin was playing for the Stade Francais academy team against Bordeaux-Begles when he took ill, after also suffering a broken neck following a tackle in the opening minutes. Chauvin was rushed to a local hospital and has since undergone surgery on his neck injury.

This comes just four months after French rugby player Louis Fajfrowski died after suffering a heart attack after being replaced in a friendly match while playing for Aurillac.

Fajfrowski picked up an injury during the game following a heavy tackle and needed to be substituted. He was brought down the tunnel by medical teams but the 21-year-old lost consciousness in the dressing room and was transported to hospital, where he later died from a heart attack.
