French media is reporting that Ronan O'Gara has rebuffed an IRFU offer to replace Les Kiss as Ireland's defence coach.

Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that the Racing Metro defence coach could make a return to Irish rugby, but writing in his Irish Examiner column last week, the former Munster out-half admitted that Paris "is beginning to grow on me" and said he will remain in France "for a good few years yet".

"I’m a lot more likely to move within France than back to Ireland," he wrote. "There was some rubbish report around this week of me going back as the Ireland defence coach, which contains about 0.00% truth in it."

Midi Olympique is reporting today that Ireland's record points scorer was approached by the IRFU but has told the union that he is happy in France and expects to extend his stay with the Top 14 club.

The paper also says that Biarritz and Eddie O'Sullivan have agreed a severance deal to end his stay with the French club.

Earlier this month O'Gara admitted that he was left shaken by the attacks in Paris and see how events unfold in the coming weeks before deciding if he and his family will remain in France.

“Jessica is a bit scared too. Five children. Away from home. Probably yearning for Cork. The whole episode has us looking homewards again," he said.
