Paddy Jackson will have to wait a bit longer to play another game on Irish soil after Perpignan opted to leave him out of their squad for this weekend's European Challenge Cup clash against Connacht in Galway.

It had been thought that Jackson might feature at The Sportsgrounds, but the French side - who have lost all their games in the Top 14 so far this season - have decided to keep the number ten fresh for domestic action.

Jackson hasn't played in Ireland since the end of the 2016/17 season, missing all of last season following a high-profile trial in January, where Jackson was found not guilty of rape and sexual assault. His contract was subsequently cancelled by the IRFU, and after being linked to a number of sides in England and France, he ended up with Perpignan in the south of France.

In recent weeks, the 26-year-old has been linked with a switch to Lyon at the end of the season, with the former Ulster ten's contract containing a release clause if Perpignan are relegated.

Jackson has been capped 25 times by Ireland.
