Former Munster scrum-half Mike Prendergast will join Racing 92 as backs and attack coach on a long-term contract next season.

Prendergast will link up with Simon Zebo and Donnacha Ryan as he joins from fellow Parisian outfit Stade Francais, where he spent the last season.

Reports in France had suggested that the Limerick native had agreed to join Toulon but Independent.ie understands that was not that case, although discussions between both parties did take place.

Prendergast was also linked with Munster, but any potential move never looked like materialising as soon as Racing put a very attractive offer on the table.

Racing came highly recommended to Prendergast from Ronan O'Gara, who also spent time with the club.

The 41-year old's reputation has been rapidly rising since he moved to France to begin his coaching career with Grenoble 2013 before moving to Oyonnax and then Stade.

Prendergast will work under a new-look coaching team led by Laurent Travers, who has been named as Racing's director of rugby.
