Enniscorthy set the seal on a glorious season with a one-point victory in the Provincial Towns Cup final against luckless Wicklow at Navan.

However, the AIL-promoted favourites and cup holders were given a severe test by the side which finished a long way second to them in Leinster Division 1A.

Wicklow, the only side to have defeated the Wexford team in the league, certainly showed no sign of being in awe of their opponents.

Instead it was Enniscorthy who displayed the early nerves, allowing Wicklow skipper Niall Earls to pick off a couple of penalties.

However, the lead evaporated when scrum-half Arthur Dunne squirmed over the line for the eventual victors to claim the only try of the day, converted by Ivan Poole.

Wicklow refused to be cowed, continuing to press after the break as their much-vaunted opponents persisted in making uncharacteristic errors.

Earls' third penalty edged the underdogs back ahead, but Enniscorthy eventually lifted the siege and No 8 Nick Doyle kicked the winning points off the kicking tee, as his side claimed the trophy for the fourth time since 2012.
