Connacht Eagles coach Nigel Carolan says head coach Pat Lam has been a great facilitator for the younger players coming through at the province.

The Eagles lost 22-5 away to Doncaster Knights in the B&I Cup on Saturday, but that Eagles team included three of the Connacht side that had a bonus point victory at Enisei-STM, in the Challenge Cup the week previous.

The Eagles produced a battle-hardened display in Castle Park, although they fell to their second defeat. Doncaster went 7-0 up after six minutes when a Connacht handling error was punished by full-back Paul Jarvis, and Dougie Flockhart tapped over the conversion.

Connacht were still in the game, but Rory Moloney was yellow-carded for the second time in a week, and Tyson Lewis crossed for Knights' second try.

Glen Young drove home their advantage after the break, and Jarvis sealed the bonus point on the hour. But Stephen McVeigh's late try was a deserved consolation for the visitors.
