Cabinteely CS embracing oval-ball code

Cabinteely Community School have a Sevens team
Cabinteely Community School have a Sevens team

For the first time ever Cabinteely Community School have a Sevens team.

After availing of the schools tag rugby programme provided by Leinster Rugby over the last couple of years, a meeting was held at the end of the last school year to kick-start the new school year with contact training sessions after school with the aim of putting a team together.

Over the past five week Leinster CROs Stephen Costelloe and Adam Griggs have been facilitating training sessions and have seen numbers grow from six the first week to 15 on week five.

On Wednesday, November 4, Cabinteely CS took part in a Sevens blitz at Seapoint rfc - in conjunction with Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council - alongside Newpark, Oatlands, and Clonkeen College.

Cabinteely showed how all their work has paid off by winning one and drawing two of their games.

Since then, several players have joined local clubs and embraced the 15-a-side game.

Training will continue with Stephen every Wednesday afternoon and will look forward to participating in more DLR blitz days.

If you and your school would like to avail of the Leinster tag programme or like to get involved in the contact game be in Sevens or full 15s, please contact Stephen Costelloe on 0879844168 or Adam Griggs on 0851563332.
